Blackheads are basically pimples that are exposed because they aren’t under the skin. What happens is, the blackhead begins to oxidize- similar to how apples, bananas and potatoes start darkening after they are exposed to the air. Blackheads do the same exact thing only they are implanted or stuck on your face. If you’re like most of us mortals, the second you finished reading that you began to think about throwing some hot wax on your face and yanking those suckers out. Well friends, I’m here to tell you that getting rid of blackheads does not have to be so painful or pricey. In fact, you can get rid of blackheads by using household items- particularly foods.
Exfoliate to Get Rid of Blackheads
Exfoliating removes the top layer of skin, but in this case it will help scrub away the blackheads. Typically this can be done with a drugstore brand of face scrub. Just make sure that the scrub does not contain silly things like walnuts. I know it sounds crazy, but walnut shells are commonly used in face scrubs like the popular apricot ones that you can find in most any market that sells hygiene products. These kinds of scrubs are counterproductive. They scrape and cut your skin open which will do nothing but cause more pimples and blackheads. It’s like creating troughs in your face for oil to collect. There are natural scrubs that are far more gentle than those and those are:
- Face scrub.
- Sonic Cleanser.
- Nutmeg and butter milk.
- Coffee face scrub.
- Baking soda paste.
- Lemon juice & sugar.
- Salt and sour cream.
- Green tea and water.
Remember, the goal is to mix the two ingredients together to form a pasty consistency.

How to Get Rid of Blackheads on Your Nose with Honey
Before we even get started with ways to remove blackheads using honey, I need to say that you want to perform this treatment on clean and dry skin. So perform one of the scrubs above, pat your face dry and let’s get started- Apply a very high viscosity (and preferably raw) honey to your fingertips. Next pat the honey onto your very clean and dry face. It’s important that the honey is sort of tacky because this is what is going to pull the blackheads out. Pat the honey on your face like your swatting a fast really fast for about 5 minutes. Rinse well.
Getting Rid of Blackheads Using Egg Whites
This mask is similar to the last in the fact that it will work to pull the blackheads up from your skin. You must have a clean face because nothing will properly penetrate a filthy face unless we’re talking acids. We want to be gently without skin, so use one of the natural scrubs above and then follow up with this. The egg white mask is simple. Just smear egg whites thinly in your face. Allow to dry for about 5 minutes. Spread a second layer thinly on your face. Allow to dry for at least 15 minutes. By this time your face should resemble an omelet. Grab a warm wet washrag and wipe the mix off. This egg mask is also great for brightening the skin. Makes darker complexions richer and makes lighter complexions glow.
The clay mask is one of the most essential to any face routine. This method with remove build up and unclog pores, especially if you choose to mix the clay with apple cider vinegar. Your options for clay are many- I would suggest using bentonite, rhassoul or green clay. Bentonite is a great option because you can also use it to wash your hair. What you want to do for this mask is mix equal parts clay with apple cider vinegar or water. One tablespoon each should be enough you can use more or less to your liking. Just make sure that you have equal parts liquid to clay. Spread the mixture on your face and allow to penetrate and dry for 30 minutes.
Getting Rid of Blackheads with a Toothbrush Scrub
First and foremost you want to use a toothbrush that you do NOT brush your teeth with every morning. This toothbrush should be soft bristle. Make double sure that this isn’t the same chop scrubber you use to polish your pearly whites. Now that that’s sorted, add a few drops of lemon juice and neem/jojoba oil. Gently scrub the afflicted areas with the tooth brush in a circular motion. Don’t use near your eyes or on any open wounds.
Epsom Salt and Cleansing Solution
- Mix equal parts salt and equal parts iodine.
- Apply the mixture to the blackheads with a cotton swab or cotton ball.
- Let sit for 5 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water.

Smear the lumpy mixture on your face like cream cheese on a bagel. Massage in onto the areas with blackheads especially. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse well.
Mix Turmeric & Lemon Juice
Turmeric is great for treating minor burns and black heads. It is a natural antiseptic/antibacterial.

Getting Down to Better Habits to Reduce Blackheads
Keep your face clean by cleansing your face twice a day with natural cleansers. Use toners after cleansing in order to help close the pores which with prevent oil and dirt from congregating in your pores. Be a vigilante when it comes to face care, as soon as you see something that mildly resembles a pimple or blackhead try treating it with toothpaste or steaming before cleansing the your face. Other simple changes that you can take are changing your pillow cases, always removing makeup and washing your face before bed and nix the habit of picking at your skin- this only makes matters worse. If you follow the steps above your skin health will improve substantially.
